Austin Cooper

Austin Cooper has been a member of SVRSFD for the past year and is one of our Junior members. Austin is being recognized as our March Junior/Cadet Member of the Month! Austin is an Aide on the ambulance as well as a probationary firefighter. Austin is very passionate about running calls and taking any opportunity to train or learn something new! Austin is enrolled in Calvert County’s CTA Fire and EMS program and in this past year has completed his EMR certification and is almost done with EMT class. Next year he will start fire classes to further his education in the Fire/EMS field! In February he competed in our regional Skills USA competition and placed 1st! This past month he traveled to states and placed 2nd out of the entire State of Maryland! We could not be prouder of all of Austin’s accomplishments, and we cannot wait to see all he accomplishes in the coming years, and we are so lucky to have such a bright young man as a part of our family!

We asked Austin what his favorite parts were about volunteering and being a member at SVRSFD, and this is what he said!

“A few things I love about being a volunteer is the community engagement. I love being able to make people's day better for nothing in return. It also gives me something to focus on outside of school and sports, plus it gives me experience before I get a job that pays me to do what I love.
I think the favorite thing for me, though, is everyone I have met and became friends with. The firehouse has really become a second family to me and I'm thankful for the people I'm around every single day. If anyone reading this wants to or is thinking about becoming a volunteer, don't hesitate to come hang around at the station for a day or 2 to see what it's like. Everyone is friendly and welcoming.”

Austin definitely has a bright future ahead of him at SVRSFD, and we can’t wait to watch him learn and grow!
