Michelle Velazquez
Michelle Velazquez or “Shelly” has been a member of SVRSFD since the early 2000’s! Shelly is being recognized as our March Lifetime/Associate Member of the Month! Shelly is currently an Associate member and the chair of our Sunshine and Hall Committees. She also holds many certifications such as EMT, Firefighter, and Rescue Tech classes. She has held many positions in our department, including EMS Lieutenant and our Recording Secretary! Shelly is a large part of so many of our public events, fundraising, and member activities! She is always lending a helping hand to anyone who needs it and can always make someone smile! She is known for cooking some fantastic meals for our members for family dinners and always making sure people feel special during our monthly meetings with a birthday treat! We asked Shelly to tell us some of her favorite parts about being a member of SVRSFD and being a volunteer, and this is what she said! “I joined SVRSFD with the intent of giving back to the community. I started a journey with my adopted SVRSFD family learning and growing in the EMS world. I obtained my EMT, EVOC, and EMS officer. I then obtained FF1 and later my Rescue Tech certification as well. I find it very rewarding to help others. I think purpose is found by providing effective treatment, giving reassurance, advocating for others, and being calm in the chaos. I love the brother/sisterhood of SVRSFD. We may not always see eye to eye, but we are family and are there for each other in times of need. It is such a blessing to be a part of this chosen family. Together we overcame the divide of FF/EMS and Volunteer/Paid. I have witnessed great growth in our community, department and membership.
The memories and bonds with SVRSFD are priceless!” We are so lucky to have Shelly as a part of our SVRSFD family and are thankful for her every day! |
